I had decent autonomy and flexibility but couldn’t take advantage of it because I was a single point of failure. If I didn’t do the work it didn’t get done, so lots of praise and exposure but not enough to significantly elevate my career path at LPL (promotion) or my paycheck to market rate. I did learn a ton which put me in a position to elevate my career externally but I feel that politics in the org, and a detrimental leader kept me from advancing internally.
Endless cycle of senior leaders grabbing up more work to get additional headcount (grow their empire), while the minions take on the actual work and never see the headcount/relief. Burnout is real. Culture is meh. It’s fine for financial services, better than the banks but not as good as tech.
